"During World War II, Wilverley Plain was ploughed and crops planted to support the war effort. At the time, folklore has it that swathes of blood-red poppies sprang up as far as the eye could see. Today, the area has reverted to nature, and provides delightful places for picnics and walks. Trails are well marked, but my favourite flower, the poppy, is now sleeping again and may not wake up for another hundred years or more. The poppy is a glorious flower. Like Moorcroft, every one of them is different, but the deep, crimson version which I used in Wilverley has provided both artists and designers with inspiration since time immemorial. In her New Forest garden, my mother still grows poppies of all types and in all shades. Out of them all, my favourite still remains the classic red version. The rich red poppies, so perfectly coloured, became Wilverley." Wilverley
