Author: Paul Atterbury
In May 1987 Moorcroft
Pottery was published, becoming the first Moorcroft book
to illustrate in more than 400 colour plates all of the
known designs of William and Walter Moorcroft, and Sally
Tuffin produced between 1897 and 1992. The success of
this book, which is now in its 3rd reprint of the 2nd
edition, is a reflection of the increasingly high esteem
enjoyed by Moorcroft among collectors, scholars, antique
dealers, auctioneers and pottery enthusiasts world-wide.

Originally started by
William Moorcroft, who later watched the company that
carried his name become Potters to HM the Queen, and in
receipt of international acclaim. In 1986, however,
England's once great art pottery had dwindled to a
handful of workers, and had not seen a major new design
for more than ten years. The Phoenix Years (150 colour
plates) chronicles Moorcroft's rise from the ashes of
virtual oblivion to become perhaps the most collectable
and prestigious art pottery in the world. The book
carries a full inventory of painters and tubeliners
marks up to 1997.

Moorcroft 'Winds of Change' (over 250 colour plates)
continues the story from the art pottery's centenary in
1997 through to the millennium. Most importantly, the
book gives full details of the formation of Moorcroft's
famous Design Studio. Winds of Change also provides a
full, updated inventory of painters' and tubeliners'
marks, making it an essential reference for anyone
owning a piece of Moorcroft pottery.

and triumphs of what is now perhaps the finest art
pottery in the world through to 2006. A New Dawn also
provides a full, updated inventory of painters',
tube-liners' marks, designers’ monograms, Collectors’
Club marks, retailers marks, special marks and year
stamps, making it an essential reference for anyone
owning a piece of Moorcroft pottery. |
