"As a designer, I have always enjoyed a love affair with butterflies as they dart and dash in bursts of colourful movement from flower to flower.  Burley is a picturesque New Forest village with its own extraordinary picturesque hotel in which I once worked as a vacation student.  The manicured hotel gardens were full of beautiful flowers and butterflies.  Beyond them lay the New Forest where wild ponies grazed contentedly.  These recollections of Burley have provided me with many butterfly memories.  As a student I became involved in the Butterfly Conservation Society and a combination of these two influences concentrated my mind on the worrying decline in butterfly numbers, a once-plentiful source of silent gentleness and colour for a Moorcroft designer."
