Lawson was born in 1965 and after a Foundation Art course at Exeter Art College attended Bristol Polytechnic where he gained a First Class BA Hons Degree in Ceramics (1984 - 87). Almost immediately following his Graduation he found nationwide success, his list of customers reading something like a ‘Who’s Who’. His quality of craftsmanship and originality is outstanding.
Lawson jnr’s sculptures are a humorously eclectic mixture of the classical and the naturalistic. He calls himself a ‘Ceramic sculptor’, as his work is closely connected to the work of a fine artist, but rather than working in stone or bronze he chooses clay as his medium. Inspiration for his work comes from the countryside and he combines this with his influences from classical and renaissance art, all of which he recycles in an imaginative and unconventional way. The main influences in his work range from Stubbs to Muybridge and from Michelangelo to Picasso.
Lawson jnr has a very hard act to follow - his father! However we think he succeeds brilliantly in doing his own thing, and we are thrilled to bits to be able to offer his work to you; we certainly can predict it will give you a lot of pleasure. If you would like more information about Lawson
