Gillies Jones Glass

Based in rural North Yorkshire since 1995, Gillies Jones Glass is the result of the fruitful collaboration between the glassblower Stephen Gillies and the artist Kate Jones. He makes each form and applies the colour while she makes the patterns by removing the colour through sand-blasting. The harmonious balance of restraint and freedom has been a thematic thread running through Gillies Jones' body of work from the beginning.

Inspired by the intimate beauty of their North Yorkshire landscape, and containing within it the calm elegance of the Scandinavian glass tradition, Kate Jones and Stephen Gillies have developed a unique aesthetic in contemporary glassmaking.

Once described by a captivated critic as 'defiantly decorative', the Gillies Jones pieces range from a signature line of small bowls in softly electric colours and funky monochromatic leaf prints to more complex and intricately coloured collector's pieces.

The work of Gillies Jones is held in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Museum and have found homes in prestigious art museums throughout Europe.
